Great! We value diverse perspectives and enroll our cohort based on their unique contributions to the program. Whether you want to be an engineer, business leader, lawyer, or politician, you will gain valuable cross-disciplinary experiences that you can apply in your future career.

We encourage students with non-biology majors or career plans to join our program and offer unique insights for more effective collaboration.

The healthcare field is integrated into nearly every modern career. Engineering is essential to developing prosthetics, artificial organs, protective gear, and more. Business is essential to manufacturing and distributing medications. Law is necessary to legislate our insurance systems. Technology is required to power advanced surgical tools. Architecture is essential to designing hospital spaces and care facilities. Accounting and finance are required to operate every department.

The MIAP Med program is designed to cultivate cross-collaboration to identify and address critical needs in our communities in every field of life. Therefore, we do not want a cohort full of students with the same experiences and future goals.

MIAP Med offers multiple valuable experiences you may use for your resume. Not only is it a high-level rigorous activity, but it also provides you the opportunity to develop your own research, network with high-level professionals, and deep dive into a specific sub-field while gaining hands-on clinic experience.

MIAP Med is initiating an alumni program to encourage future collaboration of program participants.

Additionally, you will be eligible for future advanced MIAP Med programs, including the 2025 Fellowship.

Many of our students will meet mentors during the program who can guide you through your future pathways and even offer recommendation letters.

MIAPMed does not make any profits, and many volunteers donate their time and resources to developing the program. We are committed to making the program as affordable as possible, and we work throughout the year to raise funds to subsidize the costs to participants.

Most decisions are released by the first week of April. You may email Admissions@MiapMed.org to inquire about your application status.

ACCEPTED STUDENT FAQs

To Be Announced

A MIAP Med Program Coordinator will meet students at the designated airport (please check your welcome email for the address and time) and shuttle you to the sponsored Hotel for orientation.

MIAP Med has dedicated Program Coordinators with the students for the entire duration of the program. You will have their phone numbers and can call them directly. They will help provide you with appropriate transportation from Atlanta to the Hotel.

Once you are enrolled in the program, you will work closely with your Program Coordinator regarding travel. All tickets should be purchased to arrive and depart from the Atlanta International Airport, which should be the airport with the most options and economic flights.

We encourage students to participate in the program independently which helps instill many skill sets necessary for future professional fields. We do not prohibit parents from traveling with their children, but please note this is an intensive program with a full schedule. Therefore there is little free time available for non-program activities. If you have concerns or special requests, you may discuss these with the Program Coordinator.

MIAP Med Program Coordinators are composed of Medical Staff at the Hospital, Faculty or Graduate Students, and partner organization leaders. Each Coordinate has completed a full background check and LiveScan, and is affiliated directly with MIAP Med.

You do not need to prepare for any curriculum, as our team will guide you through necessary training and safety protocols in the first portion of the program. There will be a comprehensive orientation where all information will be provided. You will also work closely with your Program Coordinator from now until the end of the trip.

Appropriate clothing, including closed-toed comfortable athletic shoes, laptop, medication, hygiene products, snacks, and at least one “business casual” attire for presentations and meetings.

You will have the opportunity to visit local shops to purchase items if needed. Your Program Coordinators will be there to transport you.

All lodging, transportation throughout the program, all materials, scrubs, breakfast and dinner. You should bring additional funds to cover lunch expenses and for any snacks.

Discretionary spending, additional snacks, lunch, and flights to and from the destination airport.

Please bring enough to cover the cost of a daily standard lunch at a food hall and any discretionary spending.

You will work with your Program Coordinator to arrange travel plans. We do our best to accommodate your availability.

During orientation, you will receive a detailed syllabus outlining the daily schedule.

The program consists of orientation, safety training, clinical training, shadowing, research, patient interactions, professional networking, and presentations. Students have the opportunity to choose departments, such as pediatrics, emergency department, and neurosurgery, depending on availability.

We partner with highly-rated national hotel chains each year to house our students. This year, participants will stay at the Extended Stay Hotel in Evans, Georgia.

You will be with your cohort and supervised by your Program Coordinators throughout the duration of the program.

There is dedicated free time each evening in the hotel for students to relax or spend time together. Students may go to their hotel room or the public spaces in the hotel.

We find that students often use this time to work on their research ideas.

The program will take place in and around Augusta Hospital and Medical College of Georgia. Depending on the day and rotation, students will be assigned to different departments, where they will work directly with Staff and/or Faculty.

Dinners are held at local restaurants where industry professionals will be invited for informal discussions, question and answers, and networking.

This program is considered highly rigorous. Students should expect to be on their feet most of the day and will be intellectually and physically engaged. Our program is designed to provide hands-on experience for high-level professionals working in a Level 1 Trauma center. Medical professionals are often tasked with demanding schedules, and one of the greatest lessons we provide is exposing our students to real-world experiences.

Very likely.

Not only will you likely see blood, but you are likely to encounter patients with various injuries and diseases. Bodily fluids, feces, severe injuries, and death are all a part of the hospital system. If you are sensitive to this exposure, this is not the right program for you.

However, you will never be forced to view anything that makes you uncomfortable and have the opportunity to leave the room at any time. We encourage open communication with Program Leaders throughout the process.

We are sensitive to all student concerns and can set up your shadowing for departments that best suit your interests. For example, you can shadow Radiology, which limits exposure to patient injuries. You may also shadow the administrative departments, which is useful for students interested in public health, policy, law, finance, social work, etc.

Yes, if you pay the full tuition within 5 business days of your acceptance email, you will receive $100 off tuition.
