Program Overview

The Medical Immersion & Apprenticeship Program (MIAP Med), offered by the National Association of Medical Leaders, is a selective program designed for highly motivated students. It provides in-depth clinical exposure where fellows can shadow physicians, observe surgeries, interact with patients, and develop essential clinical skills. MIAP fosters a comprehensive understanding of advanced healthcare fields, preparing participants for careers in medical sciences, research, and STEM.

2025 Program Location

The 2025 MIAP Med program will be hosted at Wellstar MCG Health in Augusta, Georgia. As one of Georgia’s four Level 1 Trauma Hospitals, Wellstar MCG serves as the main teaching hospital for the Medical College of Georgia, established in 1828. With a robust array of specialties and one of the largest medical school programs in the U.S., students will gain unparalleled clinical experience.

Clinical Experience at Wellstar MCG Health

Participants will work within Wellstar Health and affiliated hospitals. The main facility, a 520-bed teaching hospital, includes a Level I trauma center, the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, and the Georgia Cancer Center. MIAP Med fellows will have the opportunity to:

  • Shadow experienced physicians in various specialties.
  • Observe surgical procedures firsthand.
  • Interact with patients, enhancing their clinical experience.
  • Develop an independent research project to present to faculty, administrators, staff, and peers.
